About Me

Me at the highest point in Africa!

Hi! I’m Mike Rhea, and I’m a professional Geologist with over 14 years of experience. I have a passion for collecting and tumbling rocks with my daughter, as well as traveling the world with my wife to see all sorts of geologic wonders.

I attended the University of Oklahoma (Boomer Sooner!) where I earned my degree in Petroleum Geology. I have done field work in Oklahoma, Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas. I always enjoyed trips to the field while I was in school and, of course, I loved my geology field camp right before I graduated. This site is a way for me to share my love of rocks with the world.

I am the author of the book Practical Rock Identification, which you can find on Amazon and for sale on this site as part of a larger course.

You can email me at [email protected] or see my find my LinkedIn profile here. I can’t guarantee that I’ll respond, as I try to focus my time on creating content for the site.

Me at the Grand Canyon!
Exploring Iceland’s Glacier Lagoon

I have traveled all over the US and the world exploring nature and checking out cool geology wherever I can find it. From the Grand Canyon to Kilimanjaro, I can’t get enough of what Mother Nature has to offer.

I am also really into powerlifting and dabble in computer programming. If there is a bigger fan of Oklahoma football I haven’t met him or her yet. I hope you enjoy this site!
